Company History
In late 2009, Arthur Klepchukov (@artvankilmer) got tired of his love-hate relationship with Twitter. One day it was manageable, then, overwhelming. Sometimes spammy, sometimes serendipitous. Never predictable. He pictured a stream where the items you'd like to read were already highlighted for you.
The first prototype was created in February 2010 at a Startup @ Berkeley hackathon, a group Arthur was involved in during his time at UC Berkeley. He won 4th place, the only one-man team to do so. That garnered a brief mention on TechCrunch.
A second prototype arrived in the summer, with input from vocal Twitter users and Hacker News. It was a Twitter client focused on explicitly filtering out what people don't want to see.
Slipstream made it into LaunchBox Digital's third class in Fall 2010. During the program and with Kacy Fortner's help, Slipstream arrived at it's third prototype, a Google Chrome extension that brought the second prototype's filtering functionality to Twitter.com. Slipstream launched on 1/11/11 as part of LaunchBox Digital's third Demo Day.
Slipstream is based in Berkeley, CA.
Funding
Slipstream received $20,000 of seed funding from LaunchBox Digital in August 2010.
